Three more churches and/or individuals have contacted the Philly Deaf ministry to indicate that they have sent, or are planning to send, funds to add to the Haiti Deaf School Relief fund.

One of my favorite movies is "The Ghost of Dickens Past." It is a little known movie, but it's message is as great or greater than my other favorite movie, "A Christmas Carol."  In the movie, an especially important moment is when "Mr. Dickens" realizes that his need for money, as desperate as he is feeling, is nothing compared to the family who is living under a bridge in the middle of winter.  He responds to this thought by giving  a basket of food and a pouch of money for the family's housing and their young son's sickness. As he is turning to leave, the father in a confused voice, almost yells to him, "Why are you doing this?"  His answer?  "Because you need it...and I need to give it!"

Thank, everyone, who has given and those who are planning to give to this great need; not just because they need it, but because we need to give it.

Remember!  We began this collection less than a month ago with a $1000.00 goal in sight.  Would you look what the Lord has done through His people!

"Thank You's" are especially due to Grace Bishop and Trina Herzog for their wonderful preparation for the 2010 Valentines Day Dessert and "How Well Do You Know Them?" contest.   Prizes were given for the Single who was best able to answer questions about the Valentines Day traditions and history.  Trina Herzog won 1st place and Steve Shader won second place in this category.  Then it was the couple's turn.  Some of you will be discouraged to learn that Pastor David and Barbara came in last place ; (       One of our youngest couples, Ed and Ivy, came in first place, and the senior couple, Glenn and Lillian, came in second place (they had a lot more history to sift through in their answers : )  The 'runner-up couple' was Antoine and Galina.

All in all, it was a delicious evening together.  Not only the food, but our time just 'loving' to enjoy one another on this special 1 Corinthians 13 Day.

Checks were received today which have generously put the Haiti Deaf School collection over the $2000.00 mark.  The first $1000.00 was just scheduled this morning to send to our Haiti Deaf School contact: The Friends of Montfort.  As it stands now, the next $1000.00 will be schedule by the beginning or middle of next week, and should be received by the relief organization within a week.

Thank you to everyone who has given, those who continue to give, and those who plan to give yet.  It is no secret that a lot of people doing a little bit makes a big difference.

On February 10th, $1000 was scheduled for mailing from the bank account to go directly to Haiti Deaf School Relief.  We are partnering with the founder of the school, A catholic organization who also staffs the school and ministry.

Thank you for your generous giving, to date.  Can I encourage you to set aside a generous amount for this cause, every month for the next three to six months?  Consider it a "short-term missions" pledge.  I'm sure if we were in the same situation in America, we would be grateful for those who not only gave, but remembered that the suffering and need continues past the first month.

Please pray for the organization "The Sisters of Wisdom" who have not only established and staffed the Deaf school, and are now coping directly with the disaster, but who also lost 6 of their workers (nuns) to building collapses in several cities.

The Haiti Deaf School relief collection that began among Assemblies of God Deaf churches in America has, in less than one week, reached the $1000 mark.  The initial goal of $1000 that was set by Philly Deaf Ministries, was opened up to the whole of the National Deaf Culture Fellowship (NF Deaf), and has become evidence that Deaf people care for their own.

The goal is being raised now to $2500.00 as the amount to aim for in our support of our sister Deaf school in Port-au-Prince Haiti.  Thank you all who have given so far to this needful cause.

To date, the funds collected have come from:

New Jersey

Pennsylvania
California
Illinois
New York
