Did you know researchers have found FAMILY MEAL TIMES offer MANY benefits to KIDS as they are growing up? In an article by Jean Lerche Davis on WEBMD.COM it says, "One of the simplest and most effective ways for parents to be engaged in their teens' lives is by having frequent family dinners," says Joseph Califano Jr., chairman and president of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA).CASA recently reported on a national phone survey of 1,000 teens and 829 parents of teens. Eating dinner as a family helped kids in many ways. It helped them get better grades, and kept them away from cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana, and more.
7 Benefits of Family Dinners:
- Everyone eats healthier meals. and are less to become overweight.
- Kids are more likely to stay away from cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and drugs.
- School grades will be better.
- You and your kids will talk more.
- You'll be more likely to hear about a serious problem.
- Kids will feel like you're proud of them.
- There will be less stress and tension at home."
- I would add that Family Meals give Christian parents an chance to talk to their kids about God and the Bible. Which is a command for us from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

God loves children. Christian parents have the very important job of training their children to live biblically. The goal of Philly Deaf Children's Ministry is to partner with parents in this task of raising kids who know and love God. The younger kids will be studying God in the "Old Testament" and His very important place in each Bible story. We will also memorize a new Bible Verse each week. The older kids will be looking at life issues and what the Bible has to say, using the "Welcome to Holsom" graphic novel series. Bible Memory is rewarding for the older kids! We are very excited about the team of children's ministry workers God has provided to serve the families of Philly Deaf. Isaac and Katie teach the older Hearing kids. Amy and Grace teach the Deaf kids. Andrew and Barbara teach the younger hearing kids.
