STORY: God Confuses the Languages at Babel - Genesis 11:1-9
Here is the link to the TOWER OF BABEL story. ( voice and pictures only, reading the Bible Genesis 11:1-9)

Viewing this story gives your child a chance to review the Bible story we had on Sunday and gives you, the parent, a chance to talk about it with your child. I encourage you as parents to set aside time during the week to review and discuss Sunday's lesson.  Your child learns from you that God's word, the Bible is important.

Memory Verse Review Week   "There's a prize for kids who Memorize"
Psalm 1:6
For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters.
Proverb 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t depend on your own understanding.
Genesis 1:1 NIV
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

We also enjoyed singing three songs, listening to these songs will help your child learn these songs better:
Obedience Song (music and captions, no signs)
One Way Song (music and captions, no signs)
God of Wonders (music and captions, no signs)

Did you know researchers have found FAMILY MEAL TIMES offer MANY benefits to KIDS as they are growing up?  In an article by Jean Lerche Davis on WEBMD.COM it says, "One of the simplest and most effective ways for parents to be engaged in their teens' lives is by having frequent family dinners," says Joseph Califano Jr., chairman and president of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA).CASA recently reported on a national phone survey of 1,000 teens and 829 parents of teens. Eating dinner as a family helped kids in many ways. It helped them get better grades, and kept them away from cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana, and more.

7 Benefits of Family Dinners:
  • Everyone eats healthier meals. and are less to become overweight.
  • Kids are more likely to stay away from cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, and drugs.
  • School grades will be better.
  • You and your kids will talk more.
  • You'll be more likely to hear about a serious problem.
  • Kids will feel like you're proud of them.
  • There will be less stress and tension at home."
  • I would add that Family Meals give Christian parents an chance to talk to their kids about God and the Bible. Which is a command for us from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

OLDER KIDS
The PD OLDER class studied the Gideon story in Judges 6. Here are some links to resources for your older kids, in green.
  • The Gideon Story (this is an old style picture book story on youtube.com with pictures and voice, no captions)
  • The Bible story of Gideon is found in Judges 6 (this is NIV audio Bible reading, no captioning or pictures)
  • The New International Reader's version offers a simpler text for kids to read Judges 6
  • Keys for Kids has daily written and audio devotionals for kids, plus other Bible game learning opportunities. Suggestion: If your child wants to play online games, have them do something on this website first before they can play.
I encourage you to ask your older kids to retell you the Gideon story they heard at church. Ask them how this story applies to them. Here are a few Questions to start with:
  1. Was this story about how smart and brave Gideon was? (answer: No, it is about how Gideon was weak and God is strong)
  2. Who was the main character in this story, God or Gideon? (answer: God is the main character)
  3. What can we learn from the Gideon story? (answers: God has an eternal plan, I can trust God's strength, He works things out in ways I may not understand, God is the one who should always get the glory, God can help me get through impossible situations.)

Memory verse: There's a "prize" for kids who memorize!
Micah 6:8  He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

God loves children.  Christian parents have the very important job of training their children to live biblically. The goal of Philly Deaf Children's Ministry is to partner with parents in this task of raising kids who know and love God.

The younger kids will be studying God in the "Old Testament" and His very important place in each Bible story.  We will also memorize a new Bible Verse each week.

The older kids will be looking at life issues and what the Bible has to say, using the "Welcome to Holsom" graphic novel series.  Bible Memory is rewarding for the older kids!

We are very excited about the team of children's ministry workers God has provided to serve the families of Philly Deaf.  Isaac and Katie teach the older Hearing kids. Amy and Grace teach the Deaf kids. Andrew and Barbara teach the younger hearing kids.
